AARON COHEN ASSOCIATES WORKSHOP

A Space for the Future: Collaborative Learning Environments

November 3, 2006

Our recent workshops in New Orleans confirmed our belief that the physical library – the library space - will continue to become increasingly important for collaboration as more and more information services are offered in the virtual form. Our real challenge as librarians is how we are able to change the interior of the library according to new activities and needs. In other words, how are the changes from print collections to digital collaboration, from print preservation to digital access, reflected in the design of the library space?

To promote an integrated collaborative library that expands the learning capacity of students, thereby enhancing their competitiveness, is a trend that was discussed in great detail during the Millennials workshop. Even in the digital age, developing physical libraries is a key strategy. The library and collaborative learning are closely connected to teaching excellence on the academic campus. To illustrate, attached is a brochure on Academic Library Operating Excellence that outlines our new approach for addressing and streamlining library building operations.

Even in the digital age, developing physical libraries is a key strategy. The same trend was evident during user and staff interviews in 2005. The library and the collaborative learning are closely connected to teaching excellence on the academic campus.
