Librarians planning new facilities or renovations are challenged as never before to provide customers with improved user experiences – and with the greatest service from the least square footage. Increasingly, the purpose of any library facility, its services and its collections, will be to provide a collaborative environment for information discovery, utilization, creation, and management. This workshop will present an innovative planning approach that helps identify future space needs and the services that will foster collaboration among patrons, support discovery and retrieval of information from traditional sources as well as digital ones. The approach has been devised by Aaron Cohen Associates’ and Michael Keller, Stanford’s University Librarian and Director of Academic Information Resources. Librarians in the twenty-first century must confront and account for the challenges and opportunities of the vast array of digital information resources available via the global telecommunications networks. Cybraries, virtual libraries, are increasingly valuable for the functions, features, and services offered to readers that make digital resources easier to find and to use. Join us on Monday, October 20, 2008 at the National Library of Germany in Frankfurt from 9am to 4:30pm for a workshop that will include a dialogue about library users and their needs. It will be a full day of analysis concerning the future of the library building facilitated by library professionals who will chart innovative information services for the Web 3.0 environment. The cost of the workshop is 295.00 per participant. |
