Libraries are challenged by the concept of knowledge systems and architecture . In the virtual environment, the library could be a content management system in which different members of a group have the authority to read, write, and edit information. In the physical environment, the facility plays the role of a professional host, with physical zones for collaborative work, groups of materials, technology, and tables and chairs. Librarians and information technology (IT) experts often seem to confuse how to measure the two environments. As librarians and knowledge management experts, our associates research the information environment and provide detailed technology plans. Specifications support services plans for the community. | ||

Service Plans: We research organizational change by reorganizing and reconfiguring knowledge systems. This goes well beyond shifting collections and student seating and rearranging staff workrooms. It is a radical reexamination of ways to break free from the intimidating complexity of today’s staff work processes, student group dynamics and the frustration of information overload. It is about inventing a future where less is more. |
Technology and Service Interactions: The next wave of library buildings will include smart room technology. The spaces will be equipped with sensors that react to user interactions. Reference Services: Tech-enabled mobile reference services will allow special librarians to reach out to customers from anywhere within the library. This change in service delivery will have implications such as virtual teaming and the delivery of physical resources. |
Research spaces require collaboration and support from staff. We address special needs with library programs and design. High Demand Materials: The Popular Library was developed to support materials that circulate at a high rate. Our focus is on the delivery of streamlined circulation services.
